Don of Gerwn was a liver flat-coat that won the International Retriever Trial, which was run by the Retriever Society (of Great Britain). His sire was a Tweedmouth dog named Lucifer, a "cream-colored" dog. His dam was a "Rust," another reddish liver dog.

On page 244 there is interesting writing about the grouse hunting in Scotland. The stud book for Lord Tweedmouth’s kennel has each year over 2000 grouse marked killed. My guess is they were good eating? never had it myself…
The species is red grouse. They are associated with heather.

It is the same species as what we call “Willow Ptarmigan.”
However, the British subspecies doesn’t turn white in the winter.
I’ve not had it either, but ruffed grouse is excellent!
