That I’m odd.
I am a trained historian and political scientist.
However, my passion is all natural science.
I like to write, although I try to write my professional papers a little better than the blog.
I’m far younger than most other dog bloggers out there. I’m in my mid-20’s.
I’m currently in favor breeding better dogs, of maintaining breeds, but with greater genetic diversity. I’m not totally against conformation shows, but these should be secondary and complementary towards breeding for working ability and health, as well as breeding for a breed appropriate temperament.
I don’t really do much that’s exciting. I like reading Blake’s poetry and that of Wordsworth, and then remembering it when I’m out on my ancestral lands in West Virginia.
I don’t date. I don’t drink (I like being in total control of my faculties). People would think of me as eccentric, perhaps a wee bit introverted.
But oddness is the way that I’m wired. I’m proudly a noncomformist.
We live in a world in which everything must be mass produced to fit arbitrary standards that continuously change. This is as true for our culture and our academy as it is for our dogs.
This might make us produce better products. It might be the only way to generate wealth.
But I’m not so sure it’s helping us produce healthier people or better dogs.
We have a new president now, one who isn’t like the ones before. I hope that he can bring about new ways of thinking about differences in our society. Perhaps, we will start to think that the monoculture isn’t always the best thing for us.
Here’s the beautiful diversity that is all life. May it survive all attempts to further homogenize all that is living and all that is thought.
Indeed, Retrieverman! You need to be working on those journal articles and not this blog. Of course, the blog is way more fun, isn’t it?
I easily write twelve hours a day. No exaggeration. I did have the day off for the inauguration, though, so I should have written more.
I’m odd too for most of the same reasons. Right down to the “I like being in total control of my faculties” bit. Those are almost the exact words out of my mouth when this comes up.
I’m not an absolutist though, it’s just a rarity that I imbibe and never to excess… and mostly in safe situations. There have been multiple times where I’ve been the aware one who averted disaster when everyone else was feeling no pain.
And I don’t buy you’re 83% shorter verbosity test. I say it’s not working right, I even tried it myself and got the same result, but your posts are anything but too short.
Keep up the oddity.
I know there’s no way it’s true that my blog posts are so low.
I have a few that take a least a half hour to get through (earlier in the blog).
I was waiting for someone to tell me that it was shite, but now that I know, I’m taking it off.
I live in a town where if you’re under 30 and not drunk 3 nights of the week, people think you’re a wee bit strange.
