   There was a guy in Florida keeping one as a pet. I read an article about about six months ago.

     What?

     The reason why I posted this last night is I watched a program on the History Channel about the Beast of Gevaudan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_of_G%C3%A9vaudan

     The researchers (one was cryptozoologist) thought it was a striped hyena.

     I think it was a cross between a French dogue of some type and a wolf.

   The second has a picture of next to a Chinese Crested. I was surprised at how small it was.

   The husband watched that, I was ill. Did you notice the Chubacabra/nekkid coyote mention? Barry Lopez believed the Gevaudan animals were wolf/dogs as well, IIRC he mentions something about white markings.

     Spotted hyenas are quite large-90-140 pounds.

     These striped ones are only maybe 50-70 pounds– a big one would be a 90 pounder. Brown hyenas are a bit larger, usually about 85 pounds.

     They mature at two years of age, so that animal may have been a juvenile. Hyenas mature slower than dogs. The females lactate for many months. Spotted hyenas nurse their young until they are a year or more old. Striped hyenas nurse until they are 10 months old.

     I don’t know why they mentioned the naked coyote thing, other than the cryptozoologist is a member the CFZ and that’s one of their obsessions.

     I seriously think people were involved in it. Someone wanted people scared to death so they would trust political figures or institutions. And this was France, the one place where they tend to have lot of distrust in their government and institutions.

   I saw two hyenas one night in habinya Iraq at night in my truck I had for on base….they were spooky the stopped on the road and just stared at me before moving on
