Now, as I said in the earlier post, these guinea pigs become food.
Cuy is a popular Andean food.
Here is a restaurant in Ecuador that serves cuy. It’s just like the lobster tank! (He pronounces it wrong. It is not “coo-ee.” It is “kwee.”)
Also, one shouldn’t eat rodent brains. Squirrel brains can give you Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. If you don’t know what this, let’s just say you don’t want it.
I was at a reptile show earlier today and there were a ton of guinea pigs there. They were going to be snake food though, not people food. I used to raise texel cavy. That didn’t last too long though, I couldn’t deal with all that hair, and the godawful sounds that they make.
Researching the needs and behavior of the breed/species before trying to raise them tends to be helpful in avoiding that kind of waste of time and money.
Yeah, I guess that came out wrong. My step-sister raised them for a few years and talked me into having some also. Since I bred and showed rabbits at the time, I figured I might as well. (Rabbits and cavy are both shown through the ARBA) I’m much more of a rabbit person than cavy. Don’t worry, nothing bad happened to the pigs, they just went back to live with my sister.
Texels are the ones that look like they have perms, right?
I think in pigs they’re called teddies, and there’s also a satin teddy which has a sheen to it’s fur (if what we’re thinking of the same thing).
As for the videos, I don’t know if I’d be able to pick one out…I know where they come from and their different functions as pets/food, but I’d just rather it appear on my plate. They’re too cute for me to know what they looked like before they end up with a stick shoved up the bum and spread out. Despite this, I simply MUST try the meat sometime in the future, it sounds delicious.
Am I going to scare anyone if I say “mmm”? Because cuy is delicious, but not as delicious as rabbit in my opinion.
I’d love to try cuy.

:D to the world hunger suggestion! Cuy is very similar to rabbit, unsurprisingly. I haven’t had the opportunity to try it, but I suspect rat also wouldn’t be bad (provided it wasn’t an urban scavenger that had been eating garbage).
