I’ve been trying to come up with some names that might be easier to say than “working-strain golden” of “field-line golden.” Even the term “performance bred” is a bit too much.
I was calling them the “Bush’s Baked Bean dogs,” but that’s too silly.
But then I got the perfect name for them.
They are handsome with sandy red hair. They are rugged and rustic.
Just like Robert Redford.
(My favorite of his movies is The Candidate, as I’m sure you can tell):
So now I think I’m going to call them “Robert Redford retrievers.”
Do you think it fits?

I suppose it’s better than ‘Opie’ dogs.
Yep.
Because then they wind up on Happy Days.
Then they would go on to direct Willow, which would be very bad for their reputations, and we can’t have that.
If that’s so, I think all the blue-eyed huskies be then called Paul Newman Eskies.
Perfect!
I watched Out of Africa just last week. I couldn’t stop looking at his perfect hair. But poor Meryl Streep looked like a ragamuffin most of the time. The deerhound and the lions weren’t as scraggly as she was.
Ashley, you know the African climate takes its toll on white skin – especially ladies’… ;)
I did see a name in a dog show catalog for a dog named “Robert Redfurred”.
