When does a pig become a poodle?
When it’s a Mangalitsa.
This landrace evolved in Hungary and the Balkans, where they required very little care.The ones we tend to think of in this country as Mangalitsas are from Hungary. This strain was improved in the nineteenth century.
They are a fat pig, which means they are probably not going to supplant the major strains in the pork industry any time soon.
There are three breeds that are named for their colors: blond, swallow-bellied, and red. The blond and the red are self-explanatory. Swallow-bellies are black with blond bellies and feet.
The one at the top of this post is a swallow-belly.

It’s so funny I was just reading about these pigs about two days ago, and now here they are again. There was a picture of whipped Mangalitsa lard, it look kind of like meringue.
