I heart Carl Sagan.
The Science channel has been running Cosmos before Through the Wormhole, been watching both of them. Good stuff.
Back in the 17th through the early 19th century there was a huge argument about the origin of life it was between proponents of heterogenesis of life. and the spontaneous generation of life. The first argument went something like this, flowers gave rise to bees, where as in the second argument argued flies automatically arise from rotting meat. During this period one of the people arguing a position, and I can not find exactly who said this, made this statement;
God commanded to Earth to give forth life, and it still is.
This has become my mantra when I get confronted with creationists. They have trouble dismissing this statement.

Have you watched the NOVA episode ‘What Darwin Never Knew?’ It goes into the amazing depth of genetic knowledge that was discovered after Darwin, and it’s really fascinating.
I wanted to watch it, but I forgot about it.
Netflix has it, if you have that. I think Blockbuster’s online service does too.
I still watch Sagan with my kids.
