When I was growing up, the flying squirrel invaded our attic.
They liked to come into my room and run across the rafters.
Yes, I have also had them in bed with me before. When you have something soft and fluffy run across your face while you’re sleeping, you tend to notice that.
I’ve also had one urinate on my head from one of the rafters above my bed.
So although very cute and possessed of an amazing adaptation, they can be quite annoying when you’re trying to sleep at night.

Heh heh! Luckily, there are no flying cows.
I rode one of these at gramp’s house this
Weekend to the va and back.
I use to glide fly like that – when I was a kid – in my dreams.
Willie, in your neck of the woods, are you sure that you weren’t riding mothman?
Think about it Willie, how could an itty bitty thing like a flying squirrel carry you?
Did this ‘flying squirrel” have glowing red eyes? Did you experience any missing time? Were there any strange lights in the sky that night? Did you wake up with a new microchip?
Could your memory of a flying squirrel carring you really be a screen memory, because the truth of what really happened is too much for your mind to accept?
I like the flying squirrel idea, but you can keep your mothman in West Virginny.

The flying squirrels are cute. As pets how do they compare to sugar gliders?
A sugar glider might be a better apartment pet than a dog?
You may be correct, I had a little weed friday evening
watching my ‘eers toy with the Herd and now believe
it may have been the mothman that I saddled up for
a ride. Everything is a little fuzzy, but I am pretty sure
I was at the VA Hospital sometime during the weekend.
By “VA hospital” are you saying you are a war dog or that you were in a Virginia Hospital?
What happened to you? Or is it none of my business?
I do hope you are doing better. I like your humor.
HOW ARE YOU?
You might say my gramp’s is a
War dog, a female one at that,
When he isn’t feeling well. He and
I are fine now.
Stay tuned for pics of my babies

Flying Squirrels tame very easily, and I have known several people that had them as pets, but they all said they were very nocturnal–slept all day, and were awake and into everything at night! Plus, being rodents, they chewed everything up! I found where one was nesting in a slanted hollow tree when I was a youngster, and made it a habit to leave it a treat whenever I passed nearby on daily ramblings in the woods(corn, peanuts, birdseed, etc.). Eventually, this individual(I think it was a female) would come out with me watching to get her treat! In time, she let me stroke her as well! I never tried to pick her up, though……Flying Squirrels also regularly make use of birdfeeders throughout their range, but most people never realize it because they only come out at night. But sit up with a flashlight some nights, and you’ll be amazed at the show they put on! A clue they are around is their bird-like twittering that they make as they travel about. I have camped in tipis for many years, and one moonlit night I heard “Thump!” and a sliding noise over and over on the side of my tall, canvas lodge. I finally was curious enough to go outside to see what the heck it was, and it was flying squirrels!!!! Several of them would land on my tipi and slide down the cover–run over to a tree and climb it and sail back down to the tipi again–obviously just playing!!!(Although I’m aware the scientists out there might call this anthropomorphising…). This particular tipi was left up most of the time in the woods near my house, and I guess the Flying squirrels eventually got used to it and used it for a big, fun slide! Such neat, appealing little critters……
