That is said to have been Louis Dobermann’s idea – to produce the mind of small terrier in the body of a big dog. He wanted everyting about the Dobermann Pinscher to be like a giant black & tan hunt terrier.
I have heard that they were later crossed with lurchers – that’s where they get their racy looks, because the name and reputation of the dogs made them in great demand, but the middle men selling them thought the true Dobermann Pinchers were too fierce, so they outcrossed them and sold the hybrids as pure Dobermann Pinschers.
