They will survive the apocalypse!
I’m sure that virtually any relatively intelligent, normally conformed domestic dog that can learn how to use its predatory motor would survive without us.
I doubt that the retrievers with low prey drive would last very long.
My first golden retriever, though a retrieving nut, learned how to catch, kill, and eat rabbits from a Norwegian elkhound.
That said, Lacy dogs are tough, smart, and resilient.
They were supremely adapted to living on the frontier of both Kentucky and Texas.
And I bet they could make it on their own.
I don’t think many pekingese or bulldogs will.

I agree though. I think shibas would easily adapt to life without people.
There are groups who are trying to breed healthier bulldogs.
We have had contact, and it’s been more than amicable.
I’ve never had a convo with a peke person.
However, the East Asian small breeds of this type may have evolved as small scavengers in the Gobi Desert. The so-called Gobi Desert Kitchen Midden dog was found in kitchen middens near human camps that date to around 10,000 years ago.
And Pekes are one of the older breeds, so maybe it’s true.
