A while ago, I was perusing an historical zoological account of different species of wild dog.
When it listed foxes, it mentioned the red fox, the Deccan fox (what we call the Bengal fox), and something called a “caama.”
A what?
I had no idea what it could be.
The Linnaean name given for this species was V. caama (V standing for Vulpes, the genus of the true foxes).
I knew vaguely that there was a Vulpes chama, which we better know as the Cape fox of southern Africa.
The two fox is my “ID the species” query are Cape fox kits.
One wants to play very badly, but the other wants to rest.
Not an uncommon scene with many siblings– of so many species.
