Our mystery animal is a Peruvian guinea pig. Jess got the right answer first.
This breed is famous for its very long coat, which is something like that of a very shaggy dog, like an OES or a bearded collie.
As one can imagine, these animals require a lot of work to maintain.
Their coats must be kept clean and brushed regularly.
Otherwise, they start to smell.
Cousin Itt would be proud.
i’ve never seen one with a fall of hair that extravagant –
i would also imagine that like Maltese or Yorkies, banding the hair up to keep it clean [and so the animal doesn’t trip on the dragging locks] would be helpful in reducing the dirt-mop factor.

My grandmother had a mop thing for dusting the walls that looked like that.
