OH. MY.
I teach evolution. In a religious HS. Even I haven’t heard anything like that!
It is a twist on the Hovind Theory.
It goes this way:
1. There was a canopy of ice in the atmosphere.
2. That canopy kept oxygen levels very high, which allowed animals and plants the opportunity to live a very long time and get big. That’s why we have 900 year olds in the bible.
3. The lizards got really big in that environment, because reptiles never stop growing. We call them dinosaurs.
4. However, because they lived in that oxygen rich environments, the never grew big nostrils or lungs.
5. God made the canopy melt. This caused the global flood.
6. Noah put baby dinosaurs on the Ark to save them.
7. When the waters subsided, the dinosaurs couldn’t breathe very well, so many died. This guy merely put the nostrils igniting on here to account for the fire breathing dragons. Hovind is famous for saying that dragons were nothing more than living dinosaurs.
Hovind also thinks there are plenty of dinosaurs running about and has lots of spurious claims pointing to historical and perhaps living dinosaurs.
I highly recommend you take an afternoon and watch “Dinosaurs and the Bible.” It is hysterical.
Sounds enlightening. I’m always up for a bit of “professional development”
*wink*
In my evangelical HS (where even dancing was prohibited, down to censoring chapel songs with the word in it), we heard all these things in our Creationist Apologetics class (except the nose fire thing, in the class dragons were attributed to perhaps some chemical glands they had or something.
Spontaneous Nostril Combustion! LOVE IT.
Spontaneous Nostril Combustion! I love it. It was so awesome in that Matt McConaughey movie. The testament according to Matt and Christian.
