   Only problem with many old paintings of Dals, is it’s obvious that some artists were phoning it in when it came to doing the spots.

   The one image I found where the author of the book mentions that specifically, and goes on to specify that the drawing in his book was done with an eye to accuracy of the spots, is this one: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v485/Pietoro/Dog%20Breed%20Historical%20Pictures/1879_Dalmatian.jpg

   In terms of ‘faults’, it’s mentioned in many early texts that a conglomerated line of spots down the spine, solid-colored ears, and patches on the head were the most commonly seen flaws. And that was even before tricolor Dals stopped being desirable and became anathema as ‘mixed bloods’ (an idea which was based on an ignorance of color genetics/inheritance and nothing else).

     Man, I’m starting to run high on the bandwidth for the album, lately. I may cough up the few bucks to get the payed account, if the popularity keeps going up. I assume a lot of it is from people direct-linking, though. =(

       Most likely. Wish WordPress cache photos like how Posterous does it to prevent websites from running of bandwidth due to direct-linking.

           The Neo mastiffs are harder to get.

           It seems those photos are a bit inconvenient for the current mandarins of that breed’s community.

           I do have lots of dated golden retriever, wavy-coated/flat-coated retriever, Labrador, St. John’s water dog, and Newfoundland pics.
