   Well, I know that people have had black and tan Labrador Retrievers from two black parents but the fur is a little too long so I would guess that it is a flat coat with something recessive coming forward…

   I missed at first the white on his throat… that would be tricolor… gundogs that I can think of that can be tricolor are: Munsterlander, long furred gsp, English Setter… french brittany… now I am all over the place.

   I guess I give up.

    Sorry for my many responses but this one has been stuck in my head all day… I know that genetically the Labrador Retriever can produce black and tan and that a small amount of white is permissible. Are Flat coats, curly coats, Goldens and setters also able to produce the black and tan on rare occasions? They do relate back not that long ago…

    I wonder if there exists a dog breed chart with associated color genes… When I look around the info on the web, I find alot of information for canine color genetics but I haven’t found anyone who has a comprehensive chart of the various breeds and their associated color genes. Maybe a lot of breeds have not been analyzed? I’m not sure where we stand in 2011 in regards to canine genetics. I hope someone with a background in genetics responds… Is it too complicated because of the associate alleles? Is color genetics more complicated than the current system of 7 characteristics?     for some stupid reason and it is probably a stupid answer but the more i look at him the more he reminds me of snuppy the cloned afghan, wander what ever happened to him. im sure he isint ofcourse but he just reminds me of him dont know why.
