Grey seals or horsehead seals are found along the New England coast in the United States, as well as the Maritimes, the Gulf of St. Lawrence (especially the Magdalen Islands), and Newfoundland. Another population is found along the coasts of Northern Europe, especially that of Great Britain.
When one looks into the eyes of these seals, one realizes why they were the inspiration for an Elton John song.

Interesting. Many seals were displaced this winter along the Atlantic.
What a beautiful video! I just posted about a recent encounter that my dog and I had with a gray seal pup on an eastern Long Island beach. I worried about the little guy, but subsequent research indicates that gray seal pups are on their own pretty early, and it was probably fine and just resting up. It had lost its baby coat and was spotted like an adult gray seal, but still quite small. It was gone the next morning. A magical encounter. Thanks for your seal posts!
