It also has a longer snout much unlike the pugs today.
Cropping ears on pugs was common “back then”– also many of the terrier breeds were routinely cropped. There’s a well-known self-portrait of the painter Hogarth with his pet pug, ears cropped. The pug, that is.
Dalmatians were as well, in the same fashion as the Pug — with the entire ear removed, not just shaped into a point.
