This dog is half golden retriever, one quarter American cocker, and one quarter working English cocker.
These dogs are being bred by several breeders in the Dakotas as the “Dakota Sport Retriever.”
Working American cockers are quite rare, but the other two breeds in the cross are still being used.
I have no idea if this dogs are used for anything, but in theory, they could be. It just depends on the golden retriever and working English cocker contribution.

These dogs are being used as a money making scam, and that’s about it. It’s a cute looking mix, but the size and temperament they’re generally aiming for sounds just like an English Cocker. If you want a small, merry dog that loves retrieving as much as it loves people, why not just get an English Cocker for considerably less than you’d pay for this mix?
Curious what an English Cocker Spaniel costs and what these dogs cost. I never heard of them so I don’t know anything about them.
Oh, I looked them up. I had a similar dog as a child. The neighbor’s registered English Cocker Spaniel (black) mated with the other neighbor’s Labrador Retriever (yellow)… Looked like a small, lighter gold color, Golden Retriever. She was a VERY smart dog, was fearless, athletic, and lived to be 18 years old. She was a really great dog. (and she was free)

That was a mission impossible, man! BTW, cockers have one of the most sensitive noses in the dog world, so I bet the dog will do. Not a good lookin’ tho’.
The comfort retriever is a trademarked breed. http://www.comfortretrievers.com. It is only composed of golden retriever and poodle. There are many breaking the trademark or getting around the trademark by calling their dogs miniature golden retrievers. Those dogs can be composed of anything including the above mix.

I don’t know how wise it is to trademark a breed, when this one is fairly easy for someone to create.

Please read the web site. I mean golden retrievers and poodles. There are no cockers in a true comfort retriever. They were eliminated because they caused unpredictable temperaments
That is called a “goldendoodle.” Those are smooth-coated goldendoodles.
And if that’s worthy of a trademark, you have a bigger problem than Dr. Pepper has with Mr. Pibb.
There are comfort retrievers, which are called that and sold all the time, that are golden cocker crosses.
There is also Dakota sport retriever that uses a similar formula.
Please, leave the marketing stuff off this blog.
I know the puppy mill paper mill registries are forever fussing over what names to use.
If you really want to breed a small golden retriever, take a small golden retriever and breed it to a toller, then breed back to a small golden retriever.
There are actual golden retrievers that are in the 35 pound range, though these are not common.
What paper mill registries were recognizing comfort retrievers? Im just trying to keep the information that is given to the public accurate. I know that you want to be sending out accurate information. Thanks.

This is a smooth-coat goldendoodle.
The TM means very little, because virtually everyone on breeds two F1 doodles together will get puppies like this. If the poodles in ancestry are small, they will get smaller ones.
I’m not against crossbreeding dogs, even for these pet purposes.
What I’m against is crossbreeders engaging in the same bizarre practices as the worst closed registry nuts out there.
The registry you sent me describes the comfort as I describe: as a golden x poodle mix only. I know of no registry sites that describe a comfort as being composed of any other breed.
In general most goldendoodles have higher percentages of poodle and most comfort retrievers have higher percentages of golden retrievers. I believe the percentage of the breeds can greatly change the temperaments in the dogs though I do agree that they goldendoodles can produce pups, flat coats, that look remarkably similar to comfort retrievers.
Any “breeder” can anything. The purpose of the trademark is not to prevent them from breeding. It is to prevent them from using a name, Comfort or Comfort Retrievers. There is a lot of genetic testing and other quality controls that goes into this hybrid and I want he Comfort Retriever to get the reputation that it deserves. I hope that the breeders of other “miniature golden retrievers” get the reputation that they deserve.

He’s not claiming the pup in the photograph is a Comfort Retriever™. He specifically phrased it “Another take on the ‘Comfort Retriever'” meaning it’s a tongue-in-cheek reference of downsizing a Golden Retriever by crossing to a smaller breed.
In fact, he even gave a nod to what the dog ACTUALLY is: a Dakota Sport Retriever. If you search for the phrase, it actually exists under a kennel.

Same fundamental idea: breeding Cocker to Golden, then backbreeding them to create mini-Goldens aka Dakota Sport Retriever; breeding Poodles to Goldens, then backbreeding them to create mini-Goldens aka Comfort Retriever.

Have a 7 yr old cocker/golden mix 50/50 not breed by any breeders,just a chance breeding. He has 9 siblings of various size & coloration. He is all golden color,with very long wavy blond hair on his ears, about 38 lbs. He is exceptionally smart,& very healthy ,but does have his mothers nippy temper if pushed!!!! Its very controlled in that he is very responsive to corrective oral discipline., but he definitely is not your “Oh Well” Golden! I think its a great combo, but you don’t just get a little Golden out of it!!!! He’s a great dog & friend, very fearless, sometimes feisty ,with GOBS of personality. Just be sure you want this dog, he’s not a pushover, but he sure is Special!!!!
