“Lost mixed male mini doverman pincher.Name is Basa has a brown collar with tan bones on it. Last seen April 24th on highland st in the creek. very playful dog.”
So many things wrong with that ad.
Doverman? Seriously?
And it’s not a miniature dobermann. It’s a miniature pinscher, as in the smaller version of the standard pinscher, which is an ancestor for both breeds.
And it’s pinscher, not pincher!

Imagine how many shawawas get lost. :-)
Maybe that’s the same person that advertised for a lost West Harlem White Terror….
My favorite is the “Burmese mountain dog.”
If you wanted to pick on someone for poor breed spelling, you could at least have chosen one of the gazillion breeders of purebreaded Rockwilders, Doxhounds, or Germin Sheppards, instead of some person that lost their dog. I lost a halfghan bitch in the desert some years ago, and it was quite awful.
I also have to look up ‘pinscher’ almost every time I type it. It’s not a very phonetic spelling, and not a word most people write all that frequently.
Breaded dragons are as nummy as popcorn chickens from KFC. They even come deep-fried fresh from the enclosure!
mmmmmm breaded night fury *drools in the Homer Simpson way.*
They are especially delicious with a side of bernese or bald python slices.
Up side- Cute dog (my AHT often makes that “my lips are stuck to my upper teeth” face)
Down side- Dumb owner.
Win/FAIL combo = BONUS POINTS!
Did you consider that it might be a child looking for their friend?
In my experience, most people phonetically spell things– so it wouldn’t really matter if it’s a child or an adult placing the ad. There’s a reason why most newspapers are for fourth-grade education; and sophisticated media outlets are sixth grade level reading comprehension at best.
Speaking of which, I hate text messaging sometimes, and e-mails are to be abhorred because for some reason, seeing someone’s pattern of speech in written form highlights all their annoying quirks.
If it is a child, then the parents aren’t very good at making sure the child doesn’t look like a fool.
In high school, at the urging or other teachers who thought I’d learn something, I took the “horses and domestic animals” class. We began the unit on dogs with a quiz to test our general knowledge. 2 of the first 3 questions included “shit zu” and “chawawa”. I really wish I was kidding. The teacher ended up letting me teach the entire dog unit because he got tired of me correcting him.
Ugh… irks me to no end! I hate when people approach me and say “Oh I have a doberman too! He’s a mini though.” I have to keep myself from slapping them half the time.
(f.y.i. these are full grown adults. Don’t they research a breed before buying it?)
Recently saw an ad for “Route Reiler” puppies.
