   The block head and the bone suggest that it’s a Lab. Never seen one with a rough coat. Someone still have those?

   Flat coat retriever? Does look a bit overweight, but it’s difficult to tell when the dog is at the sit. Or maybe a Gordon Setter?

   It’s one o’ them rare Ebony Golden Retrievers, a’course. ;-)

   Whatever it may be, it strongly resembles the old-fashioned Newfoundland or Wavy-Coated Retriever (mid-19th century). Handsome dog!

    I am guessing Hovawart too. The Golden Hovawart resembles an over-sized Golden Retriever.

    Further to my post above (posted in haste due disadvantage of trying to participate during office time), Hovawarts are not recognized by AKC and CKC but have their fans in large numbers.

    I would have guessed Flat Coated Retriever, because the muzzle isn’t slightly pointed enough, but then it could be camera angle, and also because the coat is not flat.

    Hovawarts come in three different colour types – golden, all black and mixture of golden and black. This is all black type.

    I will be surprised if it does not turn out to be a Hovawart.
