The tail curls over the back and the legs are longer than the modern Dandie Dinmont. The coat appears to be somewhat different, too.
This dog reminds me of the pseud0-Sussex spaniel that was kept at Sandringham.
The Dandie Dinmont, as far as I know, is the only dog named after a fictional character. Dandie Dinmont is a character in the Sir Walter Scott novel Guy Mannering. Dinmont is a farmer who keeps a pack of terriers for killing vermin at Liddlesdale in the Scottish Borders.
All of the Scottish terriers are related in some way, but it is well established that Bedlington terriers and Dandie Dinmonts share a close common ancestry. They regularly appeared in the same litters for many years. Bedlingtons were developed in the Northern English county of Northumberland, which is just south of the Scottish border.
So this makes some sense.
Even if they don’t really look like each other all that much now.
