I’m rather opposed to anyone asking a movie star, famous athlete, or any other celebrity their opinion on politics. It’s not that such people aren’t entitled to an opinion – of course they are. But the vast majority of them are like the vast majority of the population – they may feel very strongly one way or another, but they are not experts in politics. Most aren’t even what I could call informed laymen. Their opinion is no more educated than that of someone randomly picked off the street. I find it sad that so many Americans feel that what “Hollywood” says on a subject other than acting and films is important. However, it is equally wrong to punish someone for providing an honest opinion. The “Dixie Chicks” were praised by some and condemned by many for their public opinion – but it was, after all, their opinion, neither more nor less valid than Hank Williams. In Mr Williams case, he was ASKED his opinion. If they didn’t want to hear it, they should not have asked. Asking so one can be “shocked” by it is disingenuous at best.
