Now, it’s not. The notion that dogs originated from a single domestication in Southern China 16,000 or so years ago has largely been falsified through sophisticated genomic research, which shows that Middle Eastern wolves played much stronger role in the evolution of the domestic dog. European wolves played an important role for dogs in that part of the world, but only a few breeds really show any affinity with East Asian wolves.
