After watching and reading all the drama about a certain dog issue, I’ve come to a new conclusion.
I need to set up a new blog policy.
This issue causes too much poo slinging, too much dogmatism, and too much wasted time and energy.
So here is my new policy:
I’m not covering pit bull issues.
I’m just not.
If you want to read it, there are other blogs discussing those issues from a variety of issues.
You’re not going to find it here.
There are two reasons:
The first reason is who nasty the debates actually are.
I like vigorous discussions, but I don’t like the discussion about those dogs is just insanity.
I’m opposed to BSL, but that’s mainly because BSL is about as easy to enforce as banning marijuana or prohibition. There is also the issue that there are a lot of dogs mistakenly identified as pit bulls and impounded.
That’s my current and only statement on the breed. I may have said things earlier, but I’m not writing anything else on this breed beyond this point.
The other reason is I just don’t know enough about this sort of dog.
I know about boxers. If we were talking about that breed, I could make a value judgment about them.
I don’t know enough about these dogs to make any value judgment about the claims being made by anyone talking about pit bulls.
And if I can’t do that, I’m just not covering it.
I have better things to write about.
Finally, it seems that everyone’s mind has already been made up on the issues surrounding these dogs, so what is the point of me writing about something in which everyone has already taken a fairly firm position?
It’s just not worth it.
Probably a good idea. There’s enough yelling on the internet already.

everyone writing about ” “pit bull” dogs” or “pit bull type dogs” or “pit bulls by which we don’t mean American pit bull terriers, but any dog anyone thinks might be a dog that can be called a pit bull” should just STFU.
If it’s not an APBT or AST, it’s a “mixed breed dog” or if you insist, a “possible pit bull mix”. And if you can’t identify an unpapered APBT/AST through appearance and behavior, then you should really STFU. And even more so if you claim that you in the business of “pit bull rescue”.

From what I collect, bully-breeds are banned in most of Europe, and it really does not matter if they are pure-bred, mixed or unidentified– they are not legal to own; and such progeny are euthanized.
And so far, dog attacks in Europe has been reduced massively ever since bully-breeds have been banned. The ban worked.
It is rather hilarious North Americans refuse to acknowledge the issue and choose to ignore the situation in Europe to fit their own agendas.
This is percisely why it is a bad idea to discuss issues about Pitbulls on the North American continent because both sides refuse to accept all the facts.
Props on trying to start a debate on Pit Bull topic in a post saying the blog owner doesn’t want to talk about the subject anymore. =P

Good. I can read about pit bulls anywhere. But where else can we learn about changes in retrievers over time? We have a tendency here in America to think we’re supposed to be involved with “issues” all the time. But IMO, none of us is going to change the outcome on the pit bull issue, so why not just let it go and let R’man do what he pleases and what he does best?
Thank you retriever man. I own multiple pit bulls and I can read the fighting so many othee places. I enjoy coming here and learning other things about different breeds and animals. I fully support your decision.
Fair enough, I like reading and learning about all sorts of dogs and am happy to continue doing so on your blog without being reminded about a topic that actually makes me quite sad.
