I think that Pilot Guide Dogs in Ohio used some Boxers and Dobermans as guide dogs years ago. Also some smooth Collies and a few other breeds. There was Doberman guide dog in our obedience club back in the ’60s.

I knew a man in Williamson,WV, (originally from Columbus,OH) who had a male Boxer guide dog, during the late 1970s/early 80s.

  Boxers are one of my favorite breeds. They are a different kind of bulldog entirely.

Just thought I’d let you know that on May 26th, 2013 I will be going to Pilot Dogs and the dog that they have for me is a Boxer. I have had several over the years (not Guide Dogs) and they are awesome animals. Well rounded and stable. Should make for a good Guide Dog.

My friend’s on his fourth Doberman seeing eye dog. Incredible dogs. Very smart. Very focused. An added advantage is that they tend to intimidate people. Makes getting people to give up the handicapped seating on NYC subways a bit easier.

If I were to ever need one, I think I’d insist on a Doberman.
