This is Peter Cottontail.
The cottontails in this area are somewhat strange in that many of them will squeak before running away.
I don’t think it’s an alarm call.
Unlike European rabbits, cottontails are not particularly social.
It is probably nothing more than a genetic fluke.





We call them “fast food”. My dogs have seemingly single-handedly wiped out the “too dumb to stay out of a fenced area containing dogs” gene from the local cottontail population here. My Borzoi & my Chow were especially skillful.
Ditto for one of my daughter’s Saints–she’s gotten tired of having to clean him up afterward.
