After putting the fake buck urine in the scrapes, I upped the ante with some lure made from doe in estrus urine.
I put it on these cotton scent-holding spikes and then placed them in trees.\
This one is strategically placed on a tree overlooking a scrape (click the below image for a closer look):
If those scent holding spikes are expensive, Tampons work as well, and even come with a string to tie them to a branch. I wish I could post photos on here, M’Loot, my 160 lb. wolf-malamute will kick his feet backward after he pees (as we’ve all seen dogs do), but he leaves a dug-up area so large it looks like a buck scrape. We leave these “scrapes” all through the woods between my house and Buck Mountain, a heavily hunted area now (rifle) deer season has just started here in Vermont, and I’m sure some hunters come across them and think they’ve discovered the territory of a big buck.
That is amusing. I can picture somebody building a stand overlooking the area now.
Fortunately they’d never see M’Loot. I keep my dogs out of the woods until hunting season is over. Too many out there that shoot first and think later.
