Nature is more complex than most people believe it to be.

There are “hummels” which have no antlers, and so can’t fight for a harem.

I saw a program on TV which showed that boss bighorn rams try to breed to all other bighorn sheep – male and female. The females either let him breed or ran away, but other rams turn to fight him.

The boss ram protects the females which lets them fatten up for the winter, but the boss ram exhausts himself protecting them, and so he starves that winter.

Less inbreeding can happen, because each year, the sire of last year’s lambs dies – he can never bred to his daughters because he dies before they are born.

The less pocessive rams live multiple years, but have fewer offspring.

There are many more lifestyles than what people once believed. Remember when children were shunned if their parents weren’t married?
