   This is ‘Lobo’. Just turning 9 years old, he is the result of an accidental pairing of a silver, Standard Poodle female and a black wolf. He is great with children, adults and other dogs but, he kills cats that try to invade his space.

   And then there is a recent piece of field test based research posted from Russia on Bear-wolf inter-breeding.

   My understanding was only that even within canids, inter-breeding may only be possible to some extent among five close cousins – gray wolves (canis lupus), golden jackals (canis aureus), coyotes (canis latrance), dingos (canis dingo), and dogs (canis lupus familiaris/canis domesticus).

     I’ve never heard of any field research bear and wolf hybrids. Sounds dubious to me!

     You’re forgetting Ethiopian wolves in that list of hybridizing Canis, and a dingo is a feral domestic dog, which can mate with anything a dog can.
