What of the Yellow-billed Duck?
I don’t have a good analogy for that one. Far more species of Anas hybridize than there are dogs in the genus Canis.
How would wildcats (Felis silvestris) fit into this analogy?
I need a lot more and better DNA studies of cats to do one for that species. There is also a lot more hybridization in the evolution of modern cats than in modern dogs. The duck analogies sort of fall apart when I start going for an analogy for the black-backed jackal. Wildly divergent species of waterfowl hybridize, but black-backed jackals cannot cross with anything but side-striped jackals (and we have no evidence, yet, that the two species have hybridized).
I don’t know. Some of the Felis silvestris in North America are another, unknown subspecies of wildcat.

There needs to be more genetic testing of the wildcat species as a whole.
