I know I’ve embedded this video before, but I find everything about Ethiopian wolves very interesting!
These dogs are a kind of African livestock guardian landrace from the Ethiopian highlands.
They do look a bit like Ethiopian wolves, and I wonder if some of these dogs might have some Ethiopian wolf genes. However, it is much more likely that the two animals evolved a similar appearance from living in the same environment.
But it would be amazing if these dogs had some Ethiopian wolf ancestry.
Given that dogs and Ethiopian wolves can readily interbreed I would be very surprised if there wasn’t some Ethiopian wolf in them. Given that genetic swamping is a threat to the wolves, it’s a given that some of their genetic set has also bled into the local domestic dogs.
