The ruffed grouse in this part of the world– and throughout the Appalachians–tend to be red in color, but those in the Great Lakes states and New England tend to be gray.

Wow! That’s all I could say. That is just absolutely gorgeous! The varied colour in the ruffed grouse is similar to that of the eastern screech owl.

The ones we have on Vancouver Island looks more like this:

The ones on the mainland are more varied colour and pattern.
