     We watched the end of that. It was terrible.

     The problem with these SciFy (refuse to use the other spelling) movies is that they are not competently done. Spoofs can be fabulously entertaining but they have to be well-written and well-acted, not just well-intentioned. Megashark vs Giant Octopus should have been gold, but it was just kind of meh.

   Now you’ve hit on one of my pet-peeves. I’m a hard sci-fi fan–have been since I was a crumb snatcher. So when the so-called Sci-fi channel first hit the airwaves I thought I was gonna be in hog-heaven. I imagined them airing segments of Isaac Asimov’s Robot series or perhaps even his Foundation series. Then perhaps they could branch out into stuff by Ray Bradbury, Robert Silverberg, Poul Anderson, etc. Maybe they’d even venture into the worlds of Cyberpunk and Steampunk or just do an updated reprise of Twilight Zone. But alas, they continue to air these grade-Z schlock monster shows (the reality versions are just as bad as the fictional accounts) that have nothing to do w/ either science or good TV. Geez, they even have their own wrestling show–what the hell does that have to do w/ Sci-fi? Fox TV does a better job w/ sci-fi than they do fer cryin’ out loud.

   To be fair, they did do Jose Farmer’s Riverworld and Frank Herbert’s Dune. I wasn’t terribly impressed w/ either, but at least they were taken from real sci-fi.

     My sentiments exactly! I wish there was a REAL “Sci-fi” channel. Surely there’s a large pool of viewers out there for the good stuff.

       Apparently not, even decent (though patently fantasy–as opposed to hard science fiction) shows, such the Dresden Files, can’t hold a big enough audience to satisfy the ratings requirements. And I’m sure you know what happened to the original Star Trek before it became a retro hit.

       I think its well past time that the Web became the primary vehicle for sci-fi video productions. To hell w/ network and cable TV.

   I normally love these type of movies but the trailer was just so bad in this case. I can see why you wouldn’t want to watch it.
