Probably not far. Mother skunks lead their babies out all over the place and sometimes forget about them.
Wouldn’t that make them easy targets for predators?
They really have only one predator: the great horned owl.
Even at that size they can really defend themselves with their chemical arsenal.
Years ago, barn owls in my neighbor’s barn did a pretty good job of taking the young ones as well.
They are awfully cute…
I had a friend who had a friend who did skunk rescue. She said they make great pets (once de-skunked) because even as adults, they have no fear. So they stay friendly all their lives.
My father once got well and truly skunked. The family eventually buried his clothes, and he said they only lifted the threat to bury him with them after he had taken 3 baths.
